Graduations
We follow a structured schedule for student development. We use a cord system inspired by the colors of the Brazilian flag (green, yellow, blue, and white). This system is the visual indicator of technical progress and commitment to the art.
Progress is celebrated once a year in our official ceremony; this annual cycle ensures that the student has consistent training time to validate each stage of their evolution.
The process is divided into two categories:
- Batismo: Moment when the beginner receives their first cord and capoeira name.
- Cord Change: Ceremony recognizing progression and updating the cord.
Students from other schools
Students from any other school are welcome to train with us for free, after authorization from the person responsible for their school.
Transfer is also gladly accepted; however, the graduated student must understand that the cord represents different values per group, so adaptation of the cord according to our exams will be necessary.
Adult Hierarchy
In capoeira, the hierarchy system and its value vary according to the school. For us, learning is more important than physical competence, so exams to obtain each cord verify knowledge.
Below is our school's system for those over 16 years old. Cords with exams have a link to the content; each student can request the exam every 30 days after receiving the previous graduation, or in case of failing the exam.
| Graduation | Level | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| No cord | Beginner | No previous experience, learning the basics. |
| Green Cord | Batizado | Student who has been baptized and is consolidating basic learning. |
| Yellow Cord | Graduated Beginner | Student with consolidated basic knowledge. |
| Blue Cord | Graduated Intermediate | Student improving knowledge and exploring variations. |
| Green-Yellow Cord | Graduated Advanced | Student transitioning to advanced knowledge. |
| Green-Blue Cord | Pre-Intern | Student suitable for advanced knowledge. |
| Yellow-Blue Cord | Intern | Student in training to be able to teach classes. |
| Green-Yellow-Blue Cord | Formado | Person authorized to teach under supervision. |
| Green-White Cord | Monitor | Person with enough experience to teach without supervision. |
| Yellow-White Cord | Professor | Person who has their own group and baptized students. |
| Blue-White Cord | Contra-mestre | Person able to substitute the mestre's classes. |
| White Cord | Mestre | Person whose leadership and teaching capacity is recognized by the mestre himself or by the capoeira community. |
Children's Hierarchy
Those under 16 years old have their graduation based on time practicing capoeira, that is, without level and without the need to demonstrate knowledge. Each year is relative to the baptism date and cord change, not necessarily 12 full months.
| Graduation | Meaning |
|---|---|
| No cord | Less than 1 year |
| Orange | 1 year |
| Gray | 2 years |
| Red | 3 years |
| Brown | 4 years |
| Black | 5 years |
From the black cord onward, more than one color is used to identify time, with the largest color being the reference, for example, for 7 years the cord color is black and gray.
